You may have already seen these chewing gums in movies or TV reports. That's normal; Bazooka Bubble Gum has been around since 1947, arriving in the USA just after World War II. It quickly became a success, with the gum selling for 1 cent at the time.
In 1953, Topps decided to improve its packaging by adding a mini comic strip to each bubble gum, featuring a fictional character called Bazooka Joe. Some fans began collecting all the wrappers; there are reportedly more than 1,500. But in 2012, the manufacturer decided to discontinue this packaging, and goodbye to the mini comic strip.
But in 2019, following fan dissatisfaction, Topps reversed course and brought its famous chewing gum back into fashion by wrapping its bubbles in comic strips again.
