The lollipop, the candy for young and old

Founder of the Pierrot Gourmand brand, Georges Evrard is a Parisian confectioner who revolutionized the world of confectionery. In 1924, he had the idea of placing a ball of cooked sugar on a rattan stem from Madagascar and thus created his very first lollipop . At the time, he said that "candies are inconvenient to eat. They are sticky, sticky and make your fingers dirty." The lollipop allowed you to enjoy your candy while keeping your fingers clean. The Pierrot Gourmand lollipops in flavored barley sugar were elongated. Practical to taste, they were however not recommended for children because they were not suitable for the palate. The round lollipop was only invented at the end of the 1950s by a Spanish confectioner, Enrique Bernat. The latter is none other than the creator of the famous brand Chupa Chups.

The lollipop has become an essential candy that we enjoy without any special occasion. Today, it comes in different forms and confectioners are not lacking in imagination! Always more creative, lollipops have intergenerational success. Deliciously sweet, they are colorful and easily catch the eye in the store. Americans love lollipops so much that they celebrate National Lollipop Day on July 20!
