Choward's Violet candies are more than just lozenges: they're a journey back in time, an American Proustian madeleine evoking the elegance of a bygone era. These violet candies release an intense yet delicate floral fragrance that fills the air as soon as you open the package. The unique flavor blends sweetness with sophisticated floral notes for an unparalleled sensory experience.
Each lozenge has a distinctive square shape and a beautiful lavender color achieved by blending red and blue dyes. The texture melts in your mouth, gradually releasing its violet aroma that pleasantly freshens breath. These lozenges are appreciated as much for their unique taste as for their refreshing properties.
Choward's Violets have achieved cult status in the United States. They appear in Raymond Chandler's novels, where the detective "Violets M'Gee" gets his nickname from these candies. More recently, they made notable appearances in the series Mad Men (episode "Far Away Places," 2012), where Peggy considers them a lucky charm, as well as in NCIS. A candy that has become an icon of American pop culture.
Tip : Let the lozenge melt slowly in your mouth to fully enjoy the gradual release of the violet flavor. These candies are perfect after a meal or for elegantly freshening your breath. Store them in a cool, dry place to preserve their delicate aroma.
The story of C. Howard Company Inc. begins in the early 1930s in New York City. Charles Howard, searching for a "unique and different" candy, created his first violet mints in a small industrial loft on Broadway. He started by selling them on the sidewalks of Manhattan from a cart, building his reputation street corner by street corner. Building on the success of Violet Mints, he then launched Choward's Scented Gum , a flavored purple chewing gum, and later expanded the line to include Peppermints, Spearmints, Lemon Mints, and more recently, Guava (2009-2010). Upon Charles Howard's death in 1965, the company was entrusted to Elizabeth Juhase, a loyal employee, and then in the 1970s to his nephews Kenneth and Arthur Pratz, who ran it until 2017. Nearly 90 years later, Choward's remains true to its original mission: to offer candies with a unique character. Made in the USA .
