Twinkies were invented on April 6, 1930, by James Alexander Dewar, then vice president of Continental Bakeries in Chicago, which sold Hostess brand products.
Realizing that the machine used to produce Little Shortbread Fingers (shortcakes filled with strawberries) remains unused outside of the six weeks of the strawberry season, he invents a small cake filled with banana cream. Later he would offer Twinkies in different flavors that you can find on Pop's America.
