American Nutella: the editions you won't find in Europe
Everyone knows the Nutella jar. Fewer people know it took more than 60 years for a new flavour to arrive, and that it is reserved for the United States.
We bring it in directly from there, for the curious and the lifelong fans alike.
From Giandujot to the 1964 jar
The story begins in 1946 in Piedmont. After the war, cocoa was scarce and expensive, so pastry maker Pietro Ferrero stretched it with local hazelnuts. His paste, Giandujot, was first sold as a loaf to slice. It became spreadable a few years later and took the name Nutella in 1964.
Nutella Peanut, the flavour made for America
In 2026, Ferrero launched Nutella Peanut in the United States: the Nutella recipe meets roasted peanuts. No coincidence there, as chocolate and peanut butter is one of America's favourite combinations.
Try it
On a slice of sandwich bread with banana slices, as a twist on the PB&J. Or straight from the spoon, no judgement here.
