Where does Mac and Cheese come from?

The recipe for the very first mac & cheese appeared in the Middle Ages. Indeed, in Italy in the 14th century, historians would have found traces of the famous dish in cookbooks more than 700 years old.

The recipe was imported to the United States at the end of the 18th century by the future President Thomas Jefferson . The latter served it as a side dish at the White House in 1802, making this dish older than the hot dog ! Fully part of American culture, mac n cheese is a classic that we have enjoyed since childhood.
