Golden syrup has been a British cupboard staple since 1883, when Abram Lyle began producing it at his London refinery. Its tin with the lion surrounded by bees and the motto "Out of the strong came forth sweetness" has barely changed since. The brand now holds a Royal Warrant.

This version keeps the original syrup base, a partially inverted refiners syrup with a light caramel taste, and adds natural maple flavouring. Note that it is not maple syrup: it is a maple flavoured golden syrup, softer and rounder.

How to use it: over a stack of pancakes or waffles, in a bowl of porridge, on vanilla ice cream or drizzled over a cake. It can also replace classic golden syrup in flapjacks and biscuits for an extra maple note.
