Bisto has been around since 1908 and is the best-known gravy brand in the UK. Gravy goes with the Sunday roast, bangers and mash, pies, Yorkshire puddings and chip-shop chips.
This Favourite version makes a smooth, coating brown gravy with a rounded, lightly peppery taste. It contains no meat and is marked suitable for vegetarians.
How to make: put 4 heaped teaspoons of granules (20 g) in a measuring jug, add 280 ml of boiling water and stir vigorously until smooth. Add more granules for thicker gravy. The drum makes about 57 portions of 50 ml.
