The Original Louisiana Brand Hot Sauce is the very first hot sauce to bear the Louisiana name, since 1928. It contains only three ingredients: cayenne peppers aged for at least one year, distilled vinegar, and salt. This unchanged recipe embodies the "Louisiana" style – the perfect balance of heat and flavor, true to the historic slogan "not too hot, not too mild."
The Original Louisiana Brand Hot Sauce represents the very essence of American hot sauce in its purest form. The recipe, unchanged for nearly a century, relies on just three ingredients: carefully selected, hand-picked, ripe Cayenne peppers , distilled vinegar , and salt. These peppers are then aged for a minimum of one year using the traditional Louisiana-style process—cooked, crushed, and then left to ferment with the vinegar and salt to develop their complex flavor.
The result is a sauce with a balanced profile that adds a touch of spice without overpowering the flavors of the food. The cayenne pepper delivers a bold yet approachable heat, while the acidity of the vinegar adds a lively edge that awakens the taste buds. It's this "not too hot, not too mild" philosophy that has made the brand famous: spicy enough for those who crave a kick, yet mild enough to complement everyday meals.
This versatile sauce can be used directly on dishes, as a marinade for chicken or fish, as a dressing, or incorporated into Cajun and Creole recipes. In 2001, over 200,000 bottles were produced daily, and the brand was exported to more than 100 countries.
Tip : Add a few dashes to your morning scrambled eggs, fresh oysters, gumbo, or po' boys. It's also the secret ingredient in an authentic Cajun Bloody Mary. Mix with melted butter for a quick wing sauce.
The story of Louisiana Hot Sauce begins in 1928 in New Iberia, Louisiana , the cradle of Cajun culture located in Iberia Parish—the same region as Avery Island where Tabasco is produced. Bruce Foods, the founding company, started as a family business where the sauce was made in a home kitchen and sold to neighbors. It was the first brand to use the name "Louisiana" for a hot sauce. In 1954, the Brown family ( JS Brown Jr. and his sons Gordon, Norman, and Si) bought Bruce Foods and expanded distribution nationwide. At its peak, Louisiana Hot Sauce was found in 75% of American supermarkets. In 2015, the brand was sold to Summit Hill Foods (based in Georgia), but production remains faithfully maintained at the historic factory in New Iberia, Louisiana. In 2023, new flavors joined the lineup: Cajun Heat, Garlic Lovers, Tangy Taco, Southwest Jalapeño, and Smoked Chipotle. Louisiana Hot Sauce is the official hot sauce of the LSU Tigers and Atlanta Braves. Made in the USA. Kosher. Available in 3 oz, 6 oz, 12 oz, and gallon sizes.
