Ortega Homestyle Mild Salsa offers an authentic Mexican flavor experience with an intensity accessible to all. The recipe combines diced and pureed vine-ripened tomatoes , creating a rich and fruity base. Onions, red and green bell peppers provide crunch and fresh, vegetal notes. Jalapeño peppers add a perfectly controlled, mild heat, while a touch of chipotle (smoked chili pepper) puree lends that characteristic aromatic depth. Garlic, concentrated lime juice, and fresh cilantro round out this balanced flavor profile.
The "Mild" setting makes this salsa perfect for sensitive palates and family meals, without sacrificing the complexity of flavors. The "Homestyle" setting features generous chunks of vegetables, offering that artisanal feel found in traditional Mexican preparations. The taste is both sweet and tangy from the tomatoes, slightly spicy, and pleasantly herbaceous.
Ideal for serving with tortilla chips , topping tacos, burritos, and quesadillas, or as a base for nachos. It also enhances scrambled eggs at brunch, grilled meats, and can be used as a marinade for chicken or fish.
Tip : Mix this salsa with cream cheese for a quick and flavorful dip. Add it to your guacamole for extra depth. For a fast chili con carne, stir it into your ground beef with kidney beans. Serve at room temperature to allow the flavors to fully develop.
The Ortega story begins in the 1800s in Ventura, California, where Mama Ortega (Maria Conception Jacinta Dominguez Ortega) raised her 13 children in a small adobe house, cooking memorable meals on a small coal stove. Her son, Emilio Carlos Ortega , the eleventh child, moved to New Mexico in 1890 and became fascinated by chiles and their flavors. He learned how to roast, peel, deseed, and wash chiles for preservation and packaging. Returning to Ventura in 1897, he founded California's first commercial food company —the Ortega Chile Packaging Company—right in his mother's kitchen. The historic adobe house where it all began still stands in Ventura and has been a designated historical landmark since 1974. In 1946, the family sold the business, and B&G Foods acquired the brand in 2003. Today, Ortega makes America's #1 taco sauce and offers a full line of products: taco shells, tortillas, salsas, seasonings, meal kits, refried beans, and chili peppers. Made in the USA.
