Barratt Fruit Salad Stick Packs are a true British Proustian madeleine . These small, rectangular chewable candies offer a unique flavor blending tangy raspberry and tropical pineapple , creating a fruity and slightly sour taste profile that has won over generations of Britons. Their characteristic pinkish-red color comes from natural colorings (anthocyanins and paprika extract).

The texture is what makes Fruit Salad so addictive: soft, chewy, and slightly sticky – what the English affectionately call "stickjaw." In the mouth, the candy initially offers a slight resistance, then becomes increasingly supple as you chew, gradually releasing its fruity flavors. It was this particular texture that made British penny chews famous in the 70s and 80s.

The Stick Pack format contains several individually wrapped candies, perfect for sharing or slipping a few into your pocket. This convenient packaging prevents the candies from sticking together and preserves their freshness. Fruit Salad candies are traditionally sold alongside their companions, Black Jacks (anise flavor) – an inseparable duo in British confectionery culture.

Tip : For an authentic experience, pair Fruit Salad candies with Black Jacks and alternate between the two flavors. The candies are slightly firm at first but quickly soften in the mouth. They're also perfect for decorating cakes or as nostalgic treats at retro-themed parties.

About the Barratt brand : Barratt & Co. was founded in 1848 in London by George Osborne Barratt , who started with a single confectioner in his Hoxton workshop. By 1906 , Barratt had become the world's largest confectionery manufacturer, with over 2,000 employees producing 350 tons of sweets per week. Fruit Salad and Black Jacks were launched in the 1920s , followed by the famous Sherbet Fountain in 1925 and the DipDab in 1935. The brand was acquired by Bassett's in 1966, then by Cadbury Schweppes in 1989, and is now owned by Valeo Confectionery (formerly Tangerine Confectionery) based in Pontefract , Yorkshire. Made in the UK.
